Artist’s Statement
The last five years have been a constant lesson of growth and change, love and loss. These lessons started when I moved to the Netherlands to pursue my degree in hydrological engineering. In the meanwhile, I rekindled my love for painting. During this time in my life, I saw many things in my daily life as well as in my travels that were beautiful for a moment before changing or fading away. To hold onto these moments just a little longer, I use bold, saturated colors in gouache to capture these otherwise fleeting moments. My subjects, often expressed in semi-realism, are clear and recognizable while the brushstrokes remind myself and the viewer that we are still looking at a memory.
Currently, I am based in Rotterdam, where I work in engineering and continue to pursue art for self-fulfilment. Since opening my store in 2020, I have received wonderful support that I’m forever grateful for. I can’t express how humbling and awesome it is to have such a positive response to my artwork. Thank you to everyone who has my memories hanging up somewhere in their home. I continue to run my shop while also pursuing other art-related outlets such as participating in local markets and curating local shows. While my main medium will always be gouache, I also paint with acrylics, make linocut prints, and experiment with zines.
